Frequently Asked Questions
- What do they eat?
- Donkeys eat regular summer forage and grass hay in the winter with a supplement of horse feed. Carrots and apples are their favorite treat.
- How old do they get?
- The oldest donkey lived into their 50's, but 30's and 40's are more common.
- How do you take care of their feet?
- Check with your local farriers to find one who has worked with donkeys before. Their feet are smaller and steeper but trim much like a horses. They generally do not need to be shod.
- How big do they get?
- Donkeys are identified by size and colour. The sizes are Mini - under 38", Standard - 38-48", Large Standard - 48-54 ", and Mammoth - over 54". Our donkeys are Large Standards but our Jack is a Mammoth (barely) so some of the foals have potential to get bigger.
